Common Questions About Microdermabrasion

Q: What is the difference between microdermabrasion and medical microdermabrasion?

Answer: It all is in the quality of the equipment. The medical machines have more power and even positive pressure at higher and lower settings, making it more applicable per patient for achieving optimum results. A regular microdermabrasion can cost as little as $3,000.00 and medicals microdermabrasion machines will start more in the upper range of $15,000.00, which are strong enough to remove the entire epidermis.

Q: What is a microdermabrasion?

Answer: It is a closed vacuum unit which blows aluminum oxide crystals onto the surface of the skin to loosen and help the shedding off of dead skin cells.

Q: Why is it necessary for some people to be on a regimen of regular scheduled microdermabrasions, while others seem to be perfect without them?

Answer: Some people need to exfoliate on a regular basis because they are experiencing some types of acne. Some individuals produce acne bacteria in the pores along with sebaceous oil glands, when the oil and bacteria cannot escape the pore because of a heavy dead skin cell build up, then the bacteria will consume some of the oil and put off a waste by product which inflames the pore and causes acne. Yet not everyone will over produce oil and bacteria thus sparing them from acne problems. Ingrown hair can also be caused due to the heavy dead skin cell build up.

Q: Why is microdermabrasion better than prescriptions such as Tretinoin?

Answer: Tretinoin is a cream derived from high levels of pure vitamin A. This is a cream that will cause the skin to peel. However it is hard on the skin. Retin-A is similar and is also a prescription. Both will make the skin sensitive, dry, irritated, and very delicate. The sun will reap havoc on skin in this condition, causing premature aging, and brown pigmentation. Read the insert! It states that you must avoid the sun and take extra precautions. Remember that it can take 7-10 years for the damage to show from sun exposure. Not the best solution is it?

There are many products that will peel the dead skin off and leave it photo-protective not photo-sensitive. I prefer to use AHA’S, alpha hydroxyl acids. Which can be custom blended to best suit the individuals needs. Long term use of AHA’s used correctly will build naturally sun protective skin. Actually it will build the skins integrity making it more resilient to the environment including the damaging sun.

Q: How should skin be cared for after and during microdermabrasions?

Answer: I strongly recommend a serious medical sun block. After any kind of treatment on your face, you should use a medical sun block if you expect to be in the sun at all. Medical sun blocks are different. They are formulated for impaired skin. They will not slow down the healing process and will not cause any side effects on the skin. Most sun blocks are full of so many ingredients that who would know what is causing what? Keep it simple and keep it clean and keep it hydrated for the fastest healing time. Collagen naturally grows during the healing process so keeping your face in the state of repairing is building the collagen at the fasted rate. The collagen your body produces is the collagen your body will keep.

Q: Why do people have to keep doing microdermabrasions?

Answer: Because the skin is continuously moving and building the dead skin. It takes 6 treatments one per week to remove the heavy build up. It takes 3 months to build it back up. So after the first six weeks it is strongly recommended to have one treatment per month to maintain the skin with little to no build up. This may vary from person to person and their individual needs.

Q: What should be used to clean and moisturize while doing microdermabrasions?

Answer: We suggest that you use a 3-4 part regimen. The Skin Firms own line of medical grade products. The wash is made with Glycolic Acid to help remove the dead skin cells every time you clean your face and then a night cream with 12% Glycolic acid which should be on your face every night for 6-8 hours. The last is used under make-up and is called a dermal bio stimulant cream which is formulated to ensure that your skin is nourished with high volumes of vitamin A,D,E and is hydrated in the best way possible to ensure fast and proper healing. The 4th product is of course the Medical Sun Block! Never forget that prevention is very important.

Once you have experienced your skin without the dead skin cell build up, you will feel dirty without it. You can feel the skin proper function being inhibited by the thick dead skin. Your skin will be naturally more hydrated and will clear up of acne and ingrown hairs. You will look younger and your skin will feel fresh and smooth. Lines will diminish and uneven color will fade away. Why would you want to stop? In ten years your friends will say you look ten years younger instead of ten years older. It works
